The Richmond chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) donated a cheque to support an organization helping vulnerable women in the community.
CFUW Richmond president Sylvia Gwozd handed a cheque to Karen Fisher-Hagel, the local coordinator of the Shoebox Project Richmond chapter.
This donation recognizes the organization's work supporting women experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the community.
The Shoebox Project is run by volunteers who collect donations and put together care packages with essential items and small luxuries.
Packages are then distributed to women through organizations like Chimo, Richmond Family Place Society, and Touchstone Family Association.
“Our mission is to empower women through in-kind support, education, and community participation,” said Fisher-Hagel.
“This generous donation will directly fund the creation of shoebox gifts for women in Richmond, bringing comfort and dignity to those facing significant challenges.”
CFUW Richmond, formerly known as the Canadian Federation of University Women Richmond, is a local chapter of a national organization dedicated to advancing gender equity and social justice through advocacy, education, and collaboration. CFUW Richmond supports initiatives that benefit the community, particularly those addressing the needs of women and children.
