I attended two excellent Earth Day events in Richmond, in Paulik Park and Terra Nova Rural Park.
Enthusiastic staff and volunteers offered a number of courses and activities.
Paulik Park presented, among many other offerings, an outdoor, hands-on course on the “importance of cover crops to improve garden soil, protect crops from severe weather, reduce water use, decrease the need for additional amendments, and deter weed establishment.”
This was valuable information for gardeners.
The park itself is starting its seasonal blooms and is a calm and peaceful oasis in our busy city.
The Terra Nova Rural Park had its own programs for Earth Week — including the one that I photographed — on how to make and use vegetable dyes for painting or dyeing.
Multiple Earth Week activities in various locations are scheduled until Sunday, April 28.
