Richmond youth are invited to take part in a creative writing contest.

The Richmond Public Library and the library’s teen ambassadors, a volunteer leadership group of teenagers who meet regularly at the Brighouse library, is inviting local youth to enter the first-ever Very Short Story creative writing contest.

This contest is designed for aspiring writers and will celebrate originality and creativity.

The contest is now open and submissions will be accepted until Tuesday, April 29.

All teens ages 13 to 18 are welcome to enter.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on May 6 as part of the library’s celebration of Youth Week.

There will be three prizes awarded, consisting of Indigo gift cards and book prizes. In addition, the winning submissions will be displayed at the Brighouse library.

For more information about the contest, visit the library’s Teen web page.

There’s also an opportunity for teens to take part in a writing circle to develop and improve their creative writing skills.

This year’s writer-In-residence Taslim Jaffer is offering a Teen Writing Circle on Tuesday, May 20 at the Brighouse library.
