A trail of what looked like a spill of some sort was spotted in the Steveston channel waters on Monday.
Photos taken by Cindy Johnson show what appears to be a foam or soap-like residue floating on the water surface around Imperial Landing, at the end of No. 1 Road.
However, it is nothing harmful to the environment, according to Jaime Gusto, general manager at Steveston Harbour Authority.
Gusto explained the foam-like substance floating on the water is "organic matter."
"They're unloading fish for the seafood auction. It's just scales and when they're pumping from the tank in the boat, it flows over the boat and that's what it looks like," she said.
"There's nothing wrong. The fish in the water are probably just eating the scales."
