Here's a run down of what's happening in Richmond over the coming weeks

Want to take in some local art? Try the Art Exhibition – Richmond Printmakers at the Thompson Community Centre (151 Granville Ave.). The Thompson Community Centre Art Committee was established in 2009 to promote arts in the centre and in the community. They have accomplished a lot over the years and they have also had great feedback on the variety of artwork that is being exhibited. Art displayed in the main hallway for September features Richmond Printmakers.

 

Sept. 20

Richmond Weavers and Spinners Guild presents Weaving with Richmond Plants - Forager’s Basket at Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate, from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Participants will use invasive and/or indigenous plants harvested in Richmond to create a functional and beautiful woven object in one day! Disability access is not available. Cost is $40 for the public, $30 for Richmond Weavers and Spinners Guild Members. Sept. 24

Visit the Richmond Art Gallery to discuss art with different gallery staff members over tea and baked treats at Art + Tea + Talk from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to ponder the current exhibit and join in the group discussion. Sept. 26 – 28

Artists, organizations and community groups in Richmond are hosting free participatory arts and activities during Culture Days Sept 26, 27, and 28. Join Canadians in hundreds of cities and towns across the country and participate in free activities that celebrate the creative expression in your community.

 

Sept. 27

Join public art specialist, Dr. Cameron Cartiere and special guest artist Andrea Sirois as they take participants on an engaging Bus Tour:  Did You Know it’s Public Art?Visit some of Richmond’s newest artworks. Bus pick up and drop off at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate. Event runs 1:15-3:30 p.m. Free admission, light refreshments provided. Sept. 27

As part of the City as Site exhibition, Nicole Dextras performs an interactive public art piece called Extra D’extras Make Overs. Be pampered with ephemeral panache and adorned with the natural beauty of flowers and leaves. Madame Nicole is on hand to beautify your life. All ages welcome to participate from 1-4 p.m..

 

Sept. 27

Take a stroll with us through history and experience Steveston’s stories with Steveston Museum Summer Walking Tours

The tours start at the Steveston Museum & Tourism Richmond Visitor Centre (3811 Moncton Street) at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and  2 p.m. For More information, call 604-271-8280.

 

Sept. 28

As part of Cultural Days at the Richmond Cultural Centre, come explore some art and have some fun at the Creative Art Station. Everyone three and older years is invited to this free, drop-in activity at the Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate) from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Pick up a brush, pencil and paint and be part of this hands-on drawing and painting workshop. An art exhibition of Cathy Kluthe and WanLi’s recent works in acrylic and multi-mediums is on display. Disability access is available. Family Sundayis a free drop-in art program at the Family Sunday

Richmond Writes Out Loud! holds a monthly Open Mic for Creative Writers.Join them once again as they host this fun literary event during Culture Days! Writers are welcome to bring poems, short stories and excerpts to share with the public.

Sept 29

Hailed from Hong Kong, Rosanne Lui has made a name for herself as a singer and an actress. If you missed her performance the last time she was in Vancouver, you can catch her live at the River Rock Show Theatre (8811 River Road) at 8 p.m. on Sept. 29. This energetic Cantopop concert is surely not to be missed. Tickets range from $68 to $168 plus service charges

Experience the great outdoor market experience of the Richmond Night Market (8351 River Road)until Oct. 13. Market days run Fri – Sat: 7 p.m. – 12 a.m., and Sun & Stat Holiday: 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. Regular admission is $2.25 (subject to change). Free admission for children 10 and under amd seniors 60 and up.
