Community members are invited to enjoy a dazzling afternoon of performances by local drag superstar Kara Juku while indulging in delectable dumplings — all to support local arts.
Richmond Art Gallery Association (RAGA) is holding a unique “Dumplings & Divas” fundraiser and art auction on Nov. 18.
Attendees will get to enjoy dumplings from Richmond-based Yummy Dumplings while watching an ethereal performance by Kara Juku, a non-binary drag artist who was the first of Asian descent to be crowned Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar in 2020.
Dumpling flavours will include cabbage and pork, chive and pork, and veggie dumplings with napa cabbage and Chinese mushroom.
Attendees will also get to participate in a silent auction for works in Richmond Art Gallery’s current International Mail Art exhibition, featuring postcard-sized artworks from 287 international artists.
The dress code for the event is the “finest disco diva attire,” and the attendee with the best outfit will be crowned the “Best Dressed Diva.”
Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit RAGA’s outreach and education efforts.
Tickets are free for current members and $25 for basic entry, which includes a one-year RAGA membership. The third option, which costs $50, includes entry, RAGA membership and a tote bag designed by artist Russna Kaur in collaboration with Chinatown Wonders.
Dumplings & Divas will take place at the Richmond Art Gallery from 1 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 18. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Dumplings & Divas Eventbrite page.
