Hong Kong singer and actor Jonathan Wong is among the cast filming for a new vertical series in Richmond.

Smoke, lights and cars were spotted at a Richmond strip mall on No. 3 Road Wednesday evening.

But don't worry — it wasn't a fire.

A film crew had taken over part of the Richview Plaza parking lot on No. 3 Road, between Capstan Way and Cambie Road, across from Yaohan Centre.

Among the cast and crew was Hong Kong singer-songwriter and actor Jonathan Wong.

The Richmond News learned the set was for a musical dramedy series titled "Rags2Richmond" inspired by real events.

This vertical series, designed for mobile viewing, is set in the early 2000s and revolves around the world of pageants in Richmond, and the entertainment industry it's linked to in Hong Kong, according to an Instagram post.

There's no word yet on when the series will premiere.
