Richmond’s Gateway Theatre is hosting several free artist performances during the annual Jade Music Festival this month.
The second annual Jade Music Festival is more than just a Chinese-language music event, it is for people of all ages to come together and reconnect with their heritage and language from Oct. 18 to 20.
Van Lefan, a second-generation Taiwanese-Canadian artist, will perform at Gateway Theatre on Oct. 13 ahead of the music festival as part of the ongoing Richmond Culture Days programming.
The festival lineup features many multilingual artists including Juno-award winner Jaqueline Teh, Canadian-born Chinese hip-hop artist Scope, and more.
Sixteen artists will perform and host artists talks throughout the three-day music event at Gateway Theatre in Richmond, Annex and Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver.
“Only when underrepresented languages, such as Chinese language music, become part of our daily lives, can Canada truly become a diverse nation,” said Charlie Wu, general manager of the Society of We Are Canadians Too, the organizers of Jade Music Fest.
“The diversity within the Chinese-speaking community is also on display at the Jade Music Fest.”
