The Richmond Cultural Centre Annex has a new mural on display..

The Richmond Cultural Centre Annex in city centre is welcoming visitors with a brand-new mural.

Richmond artist Laura Kwok's Seasons of Colour mural involves themes and narratives of "sea and sky," "art and music" and "flora and fauna."

Community members contributed their thoughts on what the mural themes should include through several public engagement activities last fall.

Sea and sky themes are showcased through waves and clouds with local wildlife represented through images of heron feathers and salmon scales.

The mural includes art and music themes with sunflowers, moonflowers and clover as well as musical instruments and pottery to represent a home for the arts.

Richmond's flora and fauna celebrate the city's natural heritage through plants and wildlife including a Saskatoon berry, snail shell, cedar, cranberries, yarrow and more.

Kwok, an illustrator and muralist, will host a gathering, display and artist tour on June 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of Doors Open Richmond at the cultural centre annex.

Her recent work focuses on capturing the life cycles of flowers and creating a personal language of floral symbolism as a form of self-expression.
