Six local artists are being recognized for their contribution to making Richmond a better place to live.

According to a press release by the BC NDP on Thursday afternoon, six Richmond artists are set to receive a $6,000 scholarship under this year's BC Arts Council (BCAC) grants.

The artists being awarded for helping make Richmond's art scene diverse and inclusive are: Ruth Lee, Spencer Tsai, Britney Do, Blaze Richert, Honoka Shoji and Jada Tang.

"During challenging times, we look to artists for creativity and inspiration,” said Henry Yao, MLA for Richmond South Centre.

“Our provincial government is providing these grants and scholarships to help our local artists thrive and make Richmond an even better place to live. Congratulations to all the recipients, and special congratulations to Spencer Tsai who lives here in Richmond South Centre."

The BCAC aims to support the arts and culture community with a diverse and equitable funding structure, and more than 250 individual artists and arts organizations across the province have benefitted from more than $2.7 million of funding this year.
