The Richmond Women’s Resource Centre (RWRC) is hosting its annual International Women’s Day celebration at the Lipont Gallery this weekend.
RWRC is partnering with Lipont Gallery and local singer and songwriter Cherelle Jardine to raise funds for the centre as part of the celebration on March 4 at 2 p.m.
Tammi Belfer, president of RWRC, said the event is “critically important” for Richmond as the RWRC has been serving women since 1976 with the help of community support.
Belfer added this year’s community support started with Lipont Place sponsoring its gallery to celebrate International Women’s Day by showcasing emerging artists together.
"The way in which the community is rallying to support its Women's Centre along with women in the arts, demonstrates to me that there is hope for all of us to emerge together in 2023,” she said.
A performance by Jardine will kick off the event and the gallery's month-long art exhibit titled “THEIR VIEWS” by female artists Alice Cao, Jia Liu, Jiabao Shen and Xin Wen.
Singer Jardine said in a statement that supporting the RWRC will help women reach their goals and dreams.
“It is so important that women support each other in these challenging times and beyond,” she said, adding it is a “great honour” to perform and help raise money for the RWRC.
“This event asks that we all 'explore and celebrate the unique perspectives women are carrying into this new, post-pandemic era.' This statement really hits home for me.”
Admission and parking for the event are free.
