More than 3,600 children are participating in Richmond Public Library’s Kids’ Summer Reading Club this year.
As part of the Summer Reading Club each year, we encourage children to let us know what they think of the books they are reading by writing book reviews, and several reviews are chosen to be published in the Richmond News throughout the summer.
Here is a selection of reviews we’ve received:

Book review: I like this book because it was very interesting, fun, dramatic, etc. If I were to give out my favourite part of the book, it would be everything. The Third Mushroom is a nice book to read. The interesting part was when Melvin took some axolotl and he grew an appendix.
Book title: Swim Team
Book author: Johnnie Christmas

Child age: 11
Book summary: This book is about a girl named Bree who moved to a new school. The thought of swimming makes Bree a little worried. But the only elective that is available is Swim 101. So, she has to make herself like the thought of swimming.
Book review: I like this book because it helps you face your fears by practicing. I know that because it encouraged me to take swimming lessons. The book also has lots of details and the pictures are wonderful! I just wish this was a book series.
This free program encourages children to read throughout the summer, helping to maintain or even improve their reading skills. Kids can track their reading and collect stickers.
