3 new restaurants enrich Richmond’s culinary scene

They offer speciality dishes from marinated raw seafood, to meat ball noodle soup, to Fuzhou cuisine

More restaurants have opened their doors in Richmond recently, adding more options for foodies in the city and across the Lower Mainland.

Daowei Haige Seafood

Daowei Haige Seafood specializes in “marinated raw seafood in sauce,” a type of food originating from Southern China.

Chefs put fresh clean seafood such as fish, shrimps, crabs and oysters in the specially made sauce, seal it and store it in the fridge, so the sauce marinate the seafood but it still keeps its freshness.

Daowei also offers Northen Chinese style cooked dishes.

The restaurant is now offering opening promotions – customers can get 12 per cent off from noon to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and students receive 15 per cent off anytime on those days.

Mr. Fu Chinese Restaurant

Mr. Fu Chinese Restaurant at the Richmond Public Market specializes in cuisine from Fuzhou, the capital of southeastern China’s Fujian province.

Fuzhou cuisine is one of the Eight Great Traditions of Chinese cuisine. The food is light compared to other styles, often with a mixed sweet-and-sour flavour.

Some signature dishes the restaurant has include crab rice, lychee pork, oyster cake and rice flour cake soup.

Chiu Chow Garden Restaurant

Chiu Chow Garden is a low-key restaurant near the Olympic Oval, offering food from Chaozhou, a city in the eastern Guangdong province of China.

It specializes in noodle soup with home-made beef meatballs and a variety of marinated products including goose, duck, chicken, beef, beef entrails, pig hocks and tofu.
