Sungiven Foods on Bridgeport Road was ordered to close its hot kitchen for operating without a valid permit.

The hot kitchen of a local Asian grocery chain dedicated to healthy foods was slapped with a closure order for almost three weeks after it was found operating without a valid permit.

According to Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) records, Sungiven Foods' Richmond store was ordered to close its hot kitchen on Dec. 1.

The store, on Bridgeport Road near No. 4 Road, kept the kitchen closed for 19 days until it reopened earlier this week on Dec. 19.

A search on VCH's database shows Sungiven Foods has two registered food service establishments — one on Marine Drive in North Vancouver and one on West 12th Avenue in Vancouver.

B.C.'s Food Premises Regulation under the Public Health Act defines "food service establishments" as premises where food is processed and served or dispensed to the public for immediate consumption.

The term does not include places selling prepackaged or unpackaged food that is not potentially hazardous to the public and does not pose the risk of a health hazard.

The Richmond store is listed as a retail food store.
