A new amusement centre in a Richmond mall has opened and is asking the city to be allowed to install more game machines.
Playtime Paradise at Aberdeen Centre is the newest family entertainment spot in Richmond, and has electronic games and claw machines.
The arcade-like spot opened at the end of October on the first floor of the mall, near the parkade entrance.
Jarvenus Entertainment, which operates Playtime Paradise, applied to the City of Richmond for a bylaw amendment to allow the business for permission to have 30 amusement machines.
An amusement centre in Richmond is defined as a room or area having five or more table games, electronic games or computers played by patrons for entertainment, according to a city staff report.
This does not include internet cafes, casinos or other gaming businesses.
In order for businesses to add more gaming machines, a bylaw amendment needs to be approved by city council.
Playtime Paradise is currently open Monday to Friday from 1:30 to 7 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 7 p.m.
City council will deal with the bylaw amendment at its committee meeting on Monday, Dec. 16.
