A wholesaler supplying Asian food to Vancouver restaurants and retailers was shut down due to unsanitary conditions.
Signs of rodent activity were found at Go Go Canada Food Service Ltd.'s premises on River Drive in the Bridgeport area during a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) inspection.
According to the inspection report, the company had five critical infractions in total, which also included failure to protect food from contamination during transportation, display, storage or preparation and the premises was not maintained in a sanitary condition.
Hand washing stations were not properly maintained and the business was not following its sanitation plan.
It also had two non-critical infractions for having live animals on the premises, as well as having inadequate lighting and or ventilation and failing to keep the premises in adequate repair or sanitary condition.
A closure order was issued on Jan. 5 and remains in place as VCH has yet to conduct a re-inspection, according to VCH. However, the Richmond News was told the wholesaler was open in a phone call to its offices on Wednesday morning.
According to Go Go Canada's website, it has been open since 1981 and supplies fresh ingredients, frozen foods, dry goods and canned goods from around 25 countries including China, Japan, Thailand and Malaysia.
