If cats can have cafes, why not dogs?
One Richmond business - already an animal-oriented cafe - has been hosting pop-up dog cafe events and dog enthusiasts are going crazy to meet furry friends.
Dogopia is a one-day dog cafe event that is randomly held a few times every month at Catopia, a cat cafe at #145-5951 Minoru Blvd. , between Westminster Highway and Elmbridge Way.
Various breeds of dogs including shiba inu, Maltese and Pomeranians have appeared at the pop-up events.
It costs $17 an hour to play with the dogs. While they are there, customers can also order drinks, cakes and snacks on top of the admission fee.
The Richmond News has been told the dogs belong to friends of Catopia’s owner and are not up for adoption.
According to Catopia’s Instagram page, several dogopia events are already fully booked including Aug. 19 and 26. The next event with available space is on Sept. 2.
Appointments by direct messaging Catopia on Instagram are required and future pop-up dates and times will be announced a couple of days in advance on the business’ Instagram account.
