A second Richmond dog training company has been certified for using humane training methods.

Daisy Dog Training recently received BCSPCA’s AnimalKind accreditation, which recognizes dog trainers committed to dog welfare.

Owner Sandy Reichert, who named the company after her dog Daisy, said she grew up seeing “force, fear and intimidation used on dogs in the name of training.”

“As an adult, I was so relieved to learn that there were many talented and educated people who were teaching and advocating for a more humane approach to training,” she said.

Reichert was inspired to pursue a career in dog training after taking Daisy to a positive-reinforcement training class, where she became fascinated with the use of the clicker in training for communicating effectively with the dogs.

To receive AnimalKind accreditation, companies are required to undergo “a rigorous auditing process” to verify their dog training methods are up to standard. The dog training standards were introduced in 2019 by BCSPCA to help dog owners find trustworthy services in an unregulated area.

“This program is the nexus in bringing dog guardians together with knowledgeable and caring trainers in our communities,” said Reichert.
