Rumble Boxing has officially opened its doors in Richmond.
The gym’s grand opening was held on Aug. 28 at its location on 5766 Gilbert Rd. near the Olympic Oval.
Over 300 people attended the event, with some of them taking classes, some meeting the team and others taking a look at the new space, said marketing director Kelly Grant.
“This was one of our most successful openings in the country,” she added.
Despite its desirable location, the close proximity to the Richmond Olympic Oval proved to be an obstacle at first.
In 2015, a covenant restricting indoor recreation businesses in new developments near the facility was imposed by Richmond city council– the Oval’s CEO proposed the restriction to protect the city’s investment, according to the city.
Landa Global Properties, which wanted the gym to be located in their Gilbert Road development, requested council to remove the restriction in early 2024.
After the city consulted with the Oval and deemed it a “well-established business in the neighbourhood,” the covenant was removed.
“The process with the city was initially challenging,” said Grant. “However, once the city understood our concept and the positive impact we can bring to our communities, they became very receptive.”
Rumble Boxing, whose tagline is "where fight club meets nightclub," was founded in 2016 and has locations all the way from Toronto to their ninth and latest location in Richmond.
The gym offers a wide range of workouts for all experience levels as well as personal training.
On Sept. 15, Rumble Boxing will participate in City Shred, one of the largest fitness events in the country, at the Olympic Oval.
