A 12-year-old was hit by a white SUV at the intersection of Westminster Highway and Cooney Road, while on his bike, according to Richmond RCMP.

Richmond RCMP are appealing for witnesses after a 12-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in city centre.

The collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, in a crosswalk at the intersection of Westminster Highway and Cooney Road.

Police say it appears the boy had just entered the crosswalk at the southeast corner of the intersection when he was “side-swiped” and knocked off his bicycle by a white sport utility vehicle (SUV), which was making a right turn at the intersection.

Emergency Health Services transported the boy to hospital, however, Richmond Mounties said they are not releasing details of his injuries.

“However, he was wearing a helmet at the time. His guardian has been notified,” said RCMP in a statement.

Richmond RCMP is now asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam video, to contact them at 604-278-1212, quoting file number 21-6168.
