In just under three weeks, 144 divas will be strapping on their gloves for battle of skills in the dunes and valleys of a B.C. golf course.
And what of the prize driving these divas to take to the dirt with such fury? The contestants are raising money in support of The Zajac Ranch for Children and Richmond's Cures for Kids Foundation.
"We thought it would be a really neat opportunity to bring a group of women together, who of course love children and love doing good, to be able to support two different charities," said Richmond's Perri Tutelman, who founded Cures for Kids two years ago, at the age of 15. The foundation just celebrated its second anniversary on Aug. 15.
The inaugural Divas on Tour Charity Golf Classic Ladies' Tournament will be held Sept. 8, at Meadow Gardens Golf Course in Pitt Meadows. It's being put on by the Boston Pizza Foundation (BPF) to support the two charities which benefit children faced with serious and chronic illnesses.
The Zajac Ranch for Children provides those chil-dren with an unforgettable summer camp experience. Cures for Kids is working on multiple ventures to improve the quality of life for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Tutelman has hooked up Vicki Gabereau as the event's celebrity emcee, BPF will provide food tastings and an auction will be held for some impressive prizes. Items up for grabs, so far, include an iPhone 4, a Joannie Rochette silver pendant, a WestJet trip for two to any location the airline flies, and a stay at a bed and breakfast.
Registration for the Divas on Tour competition is nearly full, but auction donations are still being sought.
