Steveston was swarmed by 70 artists from across B.C. and the United States, who descended on the village with paintbrush and easel in tow. They came for the 3rd Annual Steveston Grand Prix of Art, a friendly competition where artists create a work representing the location they are designated to.

The founder, Mark Glavina of the Phoenix Art Workshop, was thrilled by the turn out.

"What an amazing event this year," said Glavina of last weekend's event. "We easily had twice the public attendance this year from last year and more than 600 people cast People's Choice votes."

"It gets better every year, including the caliber of artists, which definitely kicked it up this year."

On Sunday, all of the works of art went up for sale. Eleven paintings were sold, with a portion benefiting the Richmond Art Guild - a nonprofit organization that supports and promotes local artists.
