An autopsy was performed last week on Richmond Const. Jasmine Thiara, whose body was found on the Moray Bridge on Feb. 21 after 911 calls reported someone threatening self-harm.
The family’s lawyer, Martin Peters, confirmed the autopsy has been done, but he said they are still waiting for toxicology reports to come back before it can be given to the family.
Peters had called, on behalf of the family, for an autopsy and inquest into Thiara’s death.
Whether there is an inquest will be decided by the chief coroner, Peters explained, after the police investigations are completed.
At the time of her death, Thiara was in an “undisclosed” relationship with a superior officer at the Richmond RCMP detachment, explained Peters.
This aspect is being investigated by another police force, according to Peters.
The death is being investigated by the RCMP and the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO), which investigates incidents that result in serious harm or death to police officers.
On the evening of Feb. 21, Thiara, who lived in New Westminster, told her family she was going out for gas and food.
Just a few hours later her body was found on the Moray Bridge with a single bullet wound to the head. Her car was found near the Pacific Gateway Hotel.
Thiara was three months pregnant when she died.
