The annual Best of Richmond features individuals who live and/ or work in Richmond to help make it one of the best communities in which to live. This year the Richmond News interviewed 10:
Keily Hutt is a grade 12 student attending Mathew McNair Secondary School. She currently is a nationally competitive artistic swimmer in the athlete pool for this coming Junior World Artistic Swimming Championships. Recently, she competed at the 2022 Canadian Artistic Swimming Championships (CASC) for her Junior Tech Solo, Senior Tech Duet, and Combo Routines. Following the CASC she attended the second last phase of national team trials in hopes of making it to the top 16 athletes and advancing to the final phase of national team trials in Montreal, QB. Not only is she an individual succeeding within the artistic swimming world, but also at school she is able to maintain straight A’s with a 94% average. In the future she aspires to be a surgeon and is pursuing this by attending the PennState pre-med program this coming August-September.
What do you like best about Richmond?
Richmond is the kind of city that allows me to feel the environment of a city life, but also it allows me to experience that serenity that is brought by nature.
How do you stay healthy in Richmond?
I am a competitive swimmer and because Richmond has many wonderful swimming facilities, I am able to frequent these pools to stay healthy.
What’s your favourite area of nature in Richmond?
I have always thought that Dyke Rd. is one of the most peaceful places to go. This is because even when it’s a rainy day, I am able to park my car there and experience the serenity that the river brings.

Where in Richmond do you like to take out-of-town guests?
I’ve had many homestays at my home and one place I have always loved to take them is Steveston Village.
What is one of Richmond’s hidden gems?
ESpot is an arcade that is located right by Aberdeen. This is one of my go to places with friends.
