A Richmond resident has decided to throw a block party in mid-July to get to know his neighbours better.
Alex Sagert is inviting people to bring their lawn chairs, hockey sticks and some jokes to a block party at Lord Byng Elementary on Saturday, July 23 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Sagert said the block party is a great way to get to know neighbours after more than two years of restrictions.
“I grew up in Steveston and felt it would be a good idea to get a block party going for Steveston residents,” said Sagert.
Richmond RCMP officers, members from RCMP- Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, Richmond Fire-rescue and BC Lions Street team will also attend the event, according to Sagert.
Sagert said this is the first time hosting the event and he hopes to make it an annual one.
“I enjoy planning events like this and have been doing live events since I was 15…I try to find ways to use my experience to make a memorable event for the community,” he added.
Sagert appreciated the City of Richmond providing Richmondites an opportunity to apply for a funding grant to host events like this.
