Carjacking spree made its way into Richmond

A man driving a stolen, red Kia drove from Vancouver into Richmond Friday morning, dumped the vehicle on Dover Crescent, stole a red BMW and proceeded to drive recklessly throughout the city before finally being apprehended near the Knight Street Bridge in Vancouver, according to police.

The 32 year-old suspect is in police custody after being arrested on Fraser Street at Southeast Marine Drive.

“Numerous police resources were involved in the safe apprehension of this suspect.  This case highlights the effectiveness of the policing community to work together in sharing information for the shared goal of apprehending the person responsible for these multiple crimes of opportunity” said Sgt. Annie Linteau, spokesperson for the RCMP Lower Mainland District, in a news release.

The crime spree began in Surrey when the man allegedly stole a red Honda Civic on 88th Avenue.

The man allegedly dumped the Honda in Coquitlam, where he subsequently stole the Kia.

This carjacking follows another that happened in Richmond on King Road on Thursday.
