The rollercoaster ride of gas prices in Richmond and across B.C. continued on Friday, with prices for regular plummeting as fast as they rose all week.

There was finally some relief at the pumps Friday morning for Richmond drivers, with the price of regular gas dropping in some places by a whopping 15 cents a litre.

According to GasBuddy.com, at least two stations in Richmond were reported to be selling gas at 199.9 cents a litre.

Where is the cheapest gas in Richmond?

The cheapest gas in Richmond right now appears to be at the Chevron at Westminster Highway and Garden City Road and Shell at Garden City Road and Lansdowne Road.

Most other stations in Richmond seemed to be charging 209.9 cents for regular on Friday morning.

The Richmond News reported on Thursday how some stations in the city were charging an incredible 214.9 cents a litre - among the highest in B.C.

Why is gas so expensive in B.C.?

There are numerous factors that contribute to gasoline prices, and the price of oil is what has been driving the latest record-breaking surge in gasoline prices in North America.

Gasoline prices are up everywhere, but are particularly high on the West Coast, in B.C. and California, which are experiencing record breaking gasoline prices.

War in Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and the threat of halting Russian oil imports in the U.S. and possibly elsewhere sent speculators into a panic earlier this week, driving global oil prices above US$130 per barrel.

Prices have since come down to the $US110 per barrel range. As oil prices drop, so too should gasoline prices.
