Family Day
Family Day celebrations in Richmond include the Children's Arts Festival.

Celebrate BC Family Day with imagination and creativity at Richmond's Children's Arts Festival on Monday, Feb. 10.

In one day, participants can run away to the circus, be entertained by an award-winning children's author and illustrator or choose from dozens of fun-filled creativity classes and "imagination stations."

Now in its sixth year, the festival prides itself in highly interactive and high quality artistic activities for children 12 and under, all led by local professional artists who enjoy working with children and are passionate about their art.

The festival will be held at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. One of this year's highlights is Meet the Wiz: Lee Edward Födi, an award-winning local author and illustrator.

Adults and children alike may be inspired by his Kendra Kandlestar stories, as he leads an interactive drawing workshop, where participants can create their own character. Another can't-miss opportunity for young families is Circus West's Wonderland Circus, which chronicles Alice's journey as the Mad Hatter draws her through the looking glass and into a wacky circus wonderland. These special events cost $7 each, and include festival wristband admission.

There will also be creativity classes, where children can try something different including puppet making, circus skills, musical theatre, 3D landscapes and more. Most classes are $10 per participant and also include festival wristband admission. Festival wristband admissions are $5 for children and $2 for adults.

These wristbands provide drop-in access to all of the performances and imagination stations and a range of activities. Plan your Family Day activities ahead and register your child today at www.richmond.ca/register or 604 276-4300. Full details can be found at www.childrensartsfestival.ca.
