Doughnut driver in a hole - Jeep gets stuck in Fraser River

Some drivers just can’t resist acting their shoe size when they see a large area of wet sand.

Some drivers just can’t resist acting their shoe size when they see a large area of wet sand.

One particular driver thought it would be fun to carve doughnuts on the low-tide mud flats on the south arm of the Fraser River on Sunday morning, between No. 2 and Gilbert roads.

Unfortunately, after cutting a few shapes in his Jeep, the driver got stuck in the deep mud.

According to witnesses, attempts were made to drive the vehicle out of the mud but the vehicle only submerged deeper into the riverbed.

As the tide began to rise in the afternoon, the driver and occupants had to ditch the vehicle.

According to witnesses, by 2 p.m., the tide had reached the windows of the vehicle and bystanders said the windshield wipers were still moving at the time.

The water line reached the Jeep’s roof by 3:30 p.m. By early Monday morning, at the next low tide, the vehicle had, apparently, been removed from the river.
