Man faces drug, weapons charges in Richmond court

A man is standing trial in Richmond Provincial Court this week on drug and weapons charges.

Jasper Catua Arcangel is charged with four counts of possession of various drugs including carfentanil, fentanyl, cocaine and bromazolam (a benzodiazepine).

Arcangel also faces four weapons charges including possession of a handgun, a Glock 17, without a licence and possession of an overcapacity magazine without a licence.

He’s also charged with handling, storing or transporting the handgun “without reasonable precautions for the safety of other persons.”

The fourth weapons charge is possession of the Glock 17 contrary to the Firearms Act.

These offences allegedly took place in Richmond on May 2, 2023.

Arcangel was in Richmond Provincial Court this week for the trial before Justice Bonnie Craig.

The trial was expected to wrap up Friday afternoon and a decision date has been scheduled for May 5.
