There have been 2,364 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in B.C. since Friday, and 46 deaths.

There are now 316 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 75 people in intensive care.

Provincial health officer Bonnie Henry said the 46 deaths since Friday is "the highest we have ever had."

"We are facing a significant storm surge," Henry said. "This is why right now we need to come together again. We know there is a vaccine on the horizon, and that is our goal. That is what will help us get through the next phase."

She said 80% of those deaths were among the elderly in long-term care. There has one outbreak at a school -- Newton Elementary School -- which has been closed. There have been five new outbreaks confirmed at long-term care homes since Friday:

Mountainview Village
Gatewood Villa
Lakeview Care Centre
St. Jude’s Anglican Home
Veteran’s Memorial Lodge

Outbreaks at Kiwanis Care Centre and Louis Bryer Home have been declared over. There are currently 57 active outbreaks in long-term care and assisted living facilities, and five in acute care units.

Despite the surge in hospitalizations, BC Health Minister Adrian Dix said B.C. hospitals are still only at about 70% capacity, and ICU units at 52%, for COVID-19 patients.

Henry said a correction has been made to data for the Fraser Health region, with an additional 277 cases added for that region that had not been counted for November 18 to 26.
