Richmondites wishing to hold community-building events in 2024 can now apply for funding from the City of Richmond.

Applications for the annual Richmond Community Celebration Grant Program are open from now until Sunday, Feb. 25.

The program offers funding up to $2,000 to support initiatives aimed at increasing community belonging and bringing residents and community groups together for a chance to collaborate.

Eligible initiatives must take place in Richmond between Jun. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024, be inclusive, accessible and engaging to community members from diverse backgrounds, and be free and open to the public.

Applicants must show their capacity to host events and show a "realistic estimate" of the resources and budget needed for the event, according to the City of Richmond.

Examples of events include cultural celebrations, community concerts and movies in the park, and community members and artists are encouraged to collaborate with local organizations when developing a proposal.

Community members who wish to plan block parties can also look out for the new Richmond Neighbourhood Block Party Fund, which will open for applications starting Mar. 18 for parties taking place between May 1 and Oct. 31.
