Hours at the Richmond COVID Collection Centre have been expanded by one hour Monday to Friday, a spokesperson for Vancouver Coastal Health confirmed.
“We know as the number of new cases increases, demand for testing also goes up,” said Health Minister Adrian Dix and Dr. Reka Gustafson, B.C.’s deputy provincial health minister, in a joint statement Thursday.
As a result, B.C. is stepping up its COVID-19 testing capacity by increasing service hours at assessment centres, including the one in Richmond.
The spokesperson said VCH is looking to expand the hours even further.
The Richmond testing centre is located in the parking lot of the Richmond Tennis Club at 6820 Gilbert Road.
Currently, the province has the capacity to complete approximately 8,000 tests a day.
In Vancouver Coastal Health, 1,226 tests were completed Aug. 18, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control’s COVID-19 dashboard.
The site is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, under the extended hours.
It’s also open from 9 a.m. to noon on statutory holidays that fall on a weekday.
To confirm the hours of the testing site prior to visiting, go to the BCCDC’s website and click on “Collection centre finder.”
