The second-ever Richmond Pride and Inclusion Walk will return to Steveston next week, kicking off a week of celebrating the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

Richmond's Pride Week will run from Monday, July 29 to Sunday, Aug. 4 this year with the theme "Pride Together."

On July 27, community members are invited to meet outside Good Co. Steveston for the second annual Pride Walk along the boardwalk. Those interested in attending or volunteering at the event, hosted by BC NDP MLAs Kelly Greene, Henry Yao and Aman Singh, can RSVP on Greene's website.

The inaugural event last year saw hundreds of community members gather to celebrate love in all forms.

“Recent examples of homophobia and transphobia in our community and across B.C. have underscored the need for events like this,” said Greene in a media release.

“From transphobic speakers at school board meetings to attacks on drag queen story times, we need to stand together and show that hate has no place in Richmond.”

During Pride Week, the city will also be hosting more than 20 events open to all in the community, including Drag Queen Karaoke on July 30, a tote bag printmaking workshop with Branscombe House artist-in-resident Peisen Ding on July 31, a Pride Swim at South Arm Outdoor Pool on Aug. 3 and a story time with Vancouver activist Marylee Stephenson on Aug. 4.
