Ivan Pak will run in Richmond Centre under the People’s Party of Canada banner. The former school trustee candidate, who ran on an anti-SOGI platform in the 2018 municipal election, was chosen as the PPC candidate this week.
Pak was acting as the president of the riding association previously, but has stepped down from that position to campaign for the federal seat.
The PPC was formed last year by Maxime Bernier after he lost in the leadership race for the Conservative Party.
Pak has taken a strong stance against “identity politics,” saying it is about political correctness.
In a tweet announcing his candidacy, Pak said it was a “great honour” to be part of the PPC that stands for “freedom responsibility fairness and respect.” He added that “diversity isn’t our strength, unity is.”

A few days prior to the municipal election, he joined the “Parents’ Slate” that campaigned against the SOGI policy, the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity policy that provides tools for schools to deal with these issues.
The Richmond Centre seat is currently held by Alice Wong, a Conservative who is planning to run for re-election.
The federal election is expected on Oct. 21.
