The Richmond Hospital is one step closer to equipping its new acute care tower with the latest imaging technologies, thanks to the efforts of an art nonprofit dedicated to local youth.

The Vancouver Art Youth Society (VAYS) recently raised $10,000 for Richmond Hospital Foundation's fundraising campaign for the medical imaging centre through its sixth annual International Youth Arts Contest and Exhibition.

The event, held on Sept. 24, showcased artworks created by local youth in addition to raising funds for the hospital.

VAYS aims to help young local artists "leverage their creative talents for the greater good," according to Richmond Hospital Foundation, and has donated a total of $56,300 to the hospital since 2018.

"We believe in making a positive impact on our community by harnessing the creative talents of our local youth,” said Winnie Wang, director of VAYS.

“This was a special opportunity to support our local hospital in acquiring the latest medical imaging technologies so that patients can get the best care.”

The funds will be going toward Richmond Hospital Foundation's goal to raise $25 million to help purchase the latest imaging technologies for diagnosing, tracking and monitoring medical conditions including CT scanners and machines for MRI, mammography, SPECT, x-ray and interventional radiology.

The machinery is for the new Milan & Maureen Ilich Medical Imaging Centre, which will be in the hospital's new acute care tower.

Richmond Hospital Foundation has raised 90 per cent of its fundraising goal. To learn more about the campaign, visit the Medical Imaging Centre Campaign fundraising page.
