Staff at a local duty free retailer raised more than $20,000 in 2023 to benefit Richmond Hospita's upcoming nine-floor acute care tower.
World Duty Free Vancouver recently donated $20,280 to Richmond Hospital Foundation, after setting a goal in 2019 to raise a total of $100,000 for the Yurkovich Family Pavilion.
The donation was collected through staff-led initiatives including charity sales, fundraising lunches and point-of-sale donation opportunities.
Since 2019, staff at World Duty Free Vancouver have raised $85,000 in total for the new acute care tower. They expect to reach the $100,000 goal by the end of 2024.
Tracy Wong, Dufry North America regional vice president of operations, said Richmond Hospital Foundation has been the retailer's charity of choice since 2016.
“Many of our staff live and work in Richmond, and have a deep connection for this community," she explained.
"They value the excellent care provided by the health care team here and are excited to lend their support towards the brand new acute care tower coming to Richmond.”
Richmond Hospital Foundation is raising $25 million to fund the medical imaging centre at the new acute care tower, with just 10 per cent left until it achieves its goal.
The Yurkovich Family Pavilion will have a new emergency department, an expanded surgical centre, a medical imaging centre and 208 in-patient beds.
