A 15-year-old pianist has raised more than $15,000 for the Richmond Hospital Foundation.
Ryan Wang began fundraising when he was eight years old to thank the Richmond Hospital for the urgent care provided to his mother, Iris Wang.
Iris, who was pregnant with Ryan's younger brother, was rushed to the emergency department after experiencing a racing heartbeat, trouble breathing and "an incredible amount of pain," according to the Richmond Hospital Foundation.
This happened when Ryan was two years old.
“I am so grateful for the exceptional care my mother received from the medical team at Richmond Hospital,” said Wang.
“The team at Richmond Hospital saved my mom and my little brother’s lives, so my wish is that this gift will help save many more in our community.”
After seven years, Ryan managed to raise $15,300 in support of health care at Richmond Hospital.
Ryan is a piano prodigy who began playing the piano at four years old and performed his first solo recital at Carnegie Hall when he was five.
He has since performed in prestigious venues around the world and won numerous music competitions and awards. He is currently studying in the U.K. and France on a music scholarship.
“We wish to extend our gratitude to Ryan for sharing his incredible musical talent and fundraising to give back to the community of Richmond,” said Spencer Gall, Richmond Hospital Foundation campaign director.
“This gift will go a long way in helping our health care teams provide excellent care for individuals and families in need.”
