Richmond residents and twins raised and donated $10,000 to help those in Ukraine.
Grade 11 students Sya Dhaliwal at Southpointe Academy and Jora Dhaliwal at St. George's School set up a fundraising booth at their local Gurdwara with most donations coming from the local community.
Donations were then presented to The Red Cross.
"For us both, we've both been very into humanitarian activism and just donating and giving back to those who don't really have the means or don't have the necessities to do so is what we aim to do," said Sya.
"We think it's important to give back to the families and children, especially for kids who are our age who are in a war and.. so that's what inspired us to take action."
They added their family was also looking into the humanitarian crisis in Yemen due to the food supply shortage.
Jora said being educated on "different topics around humanitarian crisis around the world" has expanded their views on how much other places in the world need help.
They are thanking the Sikh community and the Gurdwara for donating to a great cause.
"Our religion is really hospitable and we just really want to thank everyone who donated we got matched," said Jora.
