Do you remember the day the Oak Street and Moray bridges opened in 1957?

The Friends of the Richmond Archives recently posted a photo documenting the grand opening on July 3, 1957, which brought out crowds to see the new link to Vancouver.

"The project transformed Richmond from a small farming community to a suburban city and increased local population growth sevenfold," notes the Facebook post.

Hidden in the background is the Skyline Hotel, which was completed the year before. And two years later, the Deas Island Tunnel and the highway route to the U.S. border followed suit to help bridge Richmond with nearby communities.
