The Third Age Learning at Kwantlen (TALK) program is open for registration with 13 courses for adults over 50.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) offers both online and in-person TALK courses, with five of the 13 sessions at the Richmond campus beginning on Feb. 18.
These include topics of " Women in Science", "An AI Experience", "Frustrating Everyday Products", "Considerations for an Aging Brain" and "Accessing Health Services for Seniors."
In addition to TALK courses, there are a number of field trips planned including to Victoria's Craigdarroch Castle and UBC's Museum of Anthropology.
To kick off the program this season, futurist Jim Bottomley is having a free, all-ages presentation on Saturday, March 1 about how change can cause stress and divide communities.
Bottomley has consulted for governments, businesses, non-profits and individuals to help them "find future direction, identify opportunities and cope with the stress of change," according to KPU.
“We’re in a new economy with maximum change and maximum stress,” said Bottomley.
“All change is both good and bad, but working as a futurist across sectors over 30 years, I’ve learned that there are ways to overcome divergent views by focusing on the underlying needs that link us all.”
Bottomley's presentation is open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon, but attendees are asked to register in advance.
Jean Garnett, TALK program chair at KPU, said there is a variety of courses each semester for everyone.
“TALK not only provides lifelong learning, but the opportunity to expand your circle of acquaintances, and even give back by volunteering some of your time and talents," said Garnett.
TALK's annual membership fee is $10, with an additional fee applied to most courses.
