Photo: People flocked to Richmond's Lulu Theatre last century

Records indicate that the theatre, on No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway, may have been around more than 100 years ago

Do you remember the Lulu Theatre near the corner of No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway?

Apparently, people used to flock there back in the day to catch “all the latest Hollywood movies.”

It's a far cry from what we do now, flock to Cineplex at the Riverport Entertainment Complex on Steveston Highway, to sit in our bucket seats, which rock to the motion of the movie.

The photo shown dates to 1958, but City of Richmond archives make reference to the theatre around the turn of the 20th century.

While Wikipedia refers to the theatre opening its doors in 1947 – it’s not clear in what guise that was, be it movies or plays.

CinemaTreasures.org states that “Barnes & Davidson Theatres” operated the cinema in 1963, but it’s not clear exactly when it was demolished.
