So much has changed in Richmond’s city centre in the last few decades, but yet some things stay the same.
Well, sort of.
Such a case could be made for the Bamboo Grove Restaurant on No. 3 Road, just north of its intersection with Granville Avenue and opposite Richmond City Hall.
The eatery – now an award-winning Chinese restaurant (it won two accolades at last year’s Metro Vancouver Chinese Restaurant Awards) – goes back at least half a century to 1971.
Back then, 51 years ago, it was called the “Bamboo Grove Dining Room and Coffee Shop,” as captured by the City of Richmond Archives’ photo.
A rather animated, giant, tropical mask adorns the outside of the restaurant, perhaps pointing towards its theme of that time.
