Update: BC Conservation officers raid Richmond home in alleged deer killing investigation

Police vehicles and officers surrounded a Richmond home Wednesday morning

A large home in Steveston was surrounded and searched by Richmond RCMP and B.C. Conservation Officers on Wednesday morning.

A search warrant on the property involved an investigation into an alleged nighttime killing of two deer near 100 Mile House earlier this month, according to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.

The search included officers from multiple regions including the conservation officer service's general investigation unit.

Richmond resident Alex Sagert told the News more than 15 marked and unmarked law enforcement vehicles were in the area of Moncton Street and No. 2 Road. A section of No. 2 Road was blocked off from 10 a.m. into the afternoon.

Five officers with "assault-like rifles" were also spotted on the scene, he added.

"Over a loudspeaker, they announced they were the B.C. Conservation Officer Service and they had a search warrant and asked (someone) to come out with their hands up, and they did this a few times," said Sagert.

Around 10 officers entered the home afterwards, he added.

Sagert said the road has since been reopened, but about seven to eight vehicles were still on the scene in the early afternoon.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service said the investigation remains ongoing and no further information is available.
