The death of a man found deceased in his Richmond home Thursday is being investigated as a suspicious death by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team and the man's wife is in custody, police said today.
The wife called Richmond RCMP around 1:30 p.m. Thursday saying she needed medical attention.
The Richmond RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and Richmond Fire Department all attended the home at the 11900 block of Aztec Street and located two individuals, husband and wife, in medical distress, IHIT Sgt. Jennifer Pound said in a press release.
The male was pronounced deceased at the scene and the women was taken to the hospital to be treated as she was conscious but "incoherent," Pound said.
The man had an extensive medical history and the cause of death is not known at this time. As the death appears suspicious the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in and has taken conduct with assistance from Richmond RCMP, Pound said. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
"The 61-year-old female has been apprehended under the Mental Health Act and remains in hospital for assessment," Pound said.
"Although IHIT has been called in, this investigation remains a suspicious death. Further investigation and medical assessment will be required before there will be more answers into what occurred." Pound said.
No names have been released.
