A celebration of life is being held this weekend for a highly-respected Richmond doctor.

The event is being held in West Vancouver to remember Dr. Andrew Jakubowski, a cardiologist based out of Richmond Hospital.

Dr. Jakubowski passed away at the age of 68 on Jan. 27.

He was part of the medical team responsible for former Steveston MLA John Yap’s quintuple heart bypass surgery in late 2014.

Yap, during his recovery the following year, paid a glowing tribute to Jakubowski and his team at Richmond Hospital.

After his recent death, many other tributes were being paid online by former patients, some of whom referred to their former cardiologist as “Dr. J.”

“Our heartfelt condolences to all the family on your sad loss, we will always have very fond memories of Dr. J,” wrote one former patient.

“I am so sorry for your loss of this dedicated, caring man,” wrote another.

“He was my doctor for years and I greatly appreciated his personal concern and insights. I could tell he was a man that cherished his family and was also committed to his patients. I will really miss him and our chats. May God bless you with many fond memories of him and his love.”

The celebration of life is being held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Dr. West Vancouver.
