The second phase of the Richmond Centre redevelopment, which will add another 1,330 residential units to city centre, is working its way through city hall.
This second phase is planned where the existing multi-level parkade is currently situated, at No. 3 Road between Park and Anderson roads.
In the end, the south end of the mall will have about 2,200 units in a series of 12 towers.
The first three towers are almost completed, and the first residents are expected to move in shortly.
Four more are under construction as part of phase one.
The second phase, which has yet to come to Richmond city council for final approval, will add almost 94,000 square metres – more than a million square feet – of living space in Richmond’s city centre.
The proposal, according to City of Richmond documents, is for 713 market units, 573 market rentals and 44 affordable rentals.
According to city spokesperson Clay Adams, staff are currently “working through the technical and detailed design review” of the phase two proposal.
Once completed, it will be reviewed at a development permit panel meeting and then, if endorsed, will go to city council for final approval.
There is no timeline for when it will come to city council, Adams said.
