It’s never over ‘till it’s over.
That’s what the 2009 Richmond Islanders found out first-hand as they carved out a 4-2 lead in the gold medal game of their own Medal Tournament last weekend.
Leading the Cloverdale Fury by two at the bottom of the fourth, the girls thought they had claimed gold when the umpire called the game, sparking the celebrations.
But the jubilation was cut short when the Fury scorekeeper correctly advised that the gold medal game had an extended time limit.
So the teams reconvened and the teams headed into a fifth-inning.
However, it was business as usual for the Islanders, who maintained the scoreline and began the celebrations a second time around.
En route to the final, the girls won all four of their qualifying and semi-final games.
