A young Richmond entrepreneur is celebrating another year of "surviving" by launching a fundraising event to give back to the community.
Like many other local businesses that have faced challenges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Doris Qi, owner of Lifeplus Natural Health in Aberdeen Square, has been through some tough times.
However, Qi stressed that she wouldn't have been able to make it without help from Richmond's community.
"At the beginning of the pandemic, I thought most people would turn to big e-commerce companies. But that's not the case in Richmond. It has been so heartwarming to see many Richmondites still come out to shop locally as some businesses are a bit slow to pivot to online," said Qi.
"I feel that Richmondites do care about the local community. The community spirit is shining through as residents have stepped up to lift each other's spirits."
To pass on this caring to others, Qi partnered with the International Arts Academy, a local art workshop, and her friends to produce hundreds of personalized tote bags. Each tote bag is hand-painted with a picture created by children with autism.
People who are interested are welcome to make a purchase at Unit 2125 - 4000 No. 3 Rd. Each tote bag costs $5, and all proceeds will be donated to BC Children's Hospital on April. 2.
"I am forever thankful for everyone who has supported me through the pandemic. It's now my turn to give back to the community," said Qi.
