A presentation centre is being built in the parking lot at Lansdowne Centre.

An emerging structure near a Richmond Canada Line station has been piquing the interest of local residents.

Crews have been building a wooden structure at the southern portion of Lansdowne Centre near Best Buy since January.

According to Vanprop, the structure will serve as the presentation for the first phase of new residences at the Lansdowne redevelopment.

The Lansdowne redevelopment will take place in seven phases. The first part of the first phase of the development was approved by city council in mid-February, rezoning the property from "auto-oriented commercial" to "residential/limited commercial."

According to a city staff report, phase 1A of the development will include around 1,041 residential units including 141 affordable rental units, 151 market rental housing units and 749 strata units.

When fully built out, the Lansdowne redevelopment will have 4,300 units, housing about 9,000 people.

This phase will also see the construction of a 14.5-metre-wide linear park along the northern edge of Lansdowne Road. Cycling and pedestrian paths and landscaping, trees, seating and lighting will be included in the park.

The school district sees a future need for two new elementary schools in city centre, according to a report on the redevelopment that went to city council.
